Crustacean Beverly Hills gets last-minute extension after closure announcement

Shortly after the legendary hotspot announced it was being forced out of its longtime home after nearly 30 years, Crustacean Beverly Hills has scored an eleventh-hour reprieve that will keep the garlic noodles flowing a little bit longer.

The Vietnamese-fusion eatery announced it will remain at its North Bedford Drive location through Oct. 31, after the An family reportedly reached a short-term agreement with the landlord.

The restaurant celebrated the stunning reversal on Instagram Wednesday, crediting its devoted diners for helping secure the extension. “Your love made it happen!” the family wrote in a post. “After tonight’s service, Wednesday, July 29th, we will be taking a brief pause to regroup before reopening Wednesday, August 5th, in a limited capacity as we prepare for our transitional exit from Bedford.”

Reservations will be available through the end of September. In October, Crustacean will shift only to takeout and special events ahead of a permanent Oct. 31 closure, according to the LA Times.

The An family said that the extension will give them something they feared they had lost: time to properly say goodbye to the customers and employees who helped turn Crustacean into a Beverly Hills institution. “The weight of not being able to do so was extremely painful for my mother and I,” the family wrote on Instagram.

They signed the emotional message “Mama, Elizabeth, & Family,” and told diners they were looking forward to giving them a “proper farewell hug over the next few weeks!”

Crustacean’s departure follows the sale of the building housing the swanky restaurant at 468 N. Bedford Drive, according to the operators. Elizabeth An, CEO of the family-run House of An restaurant group, told Fox 11 that the building’s new landlord “has other plans” for the property, which don’t “suit Crustacean.”

The family had previously expected Wednesday’s service to mark the end of its run at the location, where it has attracted a parade of A-listers including Billy Joel, Chrissy Teigen, Lady Gaga and more.

While the Bedford Drive location will permanently close Oct. 31, the group is looking at potentially relocating in the future to Calabasas or Pasadena. Pop-ups are also planned as the restaurant makes the transition.
