Entering 2026, the Houston Texans had a deadly duo coming off the edge with All-Pro Will Anderson Jr and Pro Bowler Danielle Hunter.
Both players finished the season with at least 12 sacks, over 20 quarterback hits and three forced fumbles en rotue to a third straight playoff appearance.
So, naturally, the Texans thought they needed to improve their defensive line this offseason and decided to add former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney for a revival tour.
The three-time Pro-Bowler was at his best during his time with the Texans from 2014-2018, helping change the culture back to a winning formula.
Hunter, one of the NFL’s most slept-on pass-rushers, is excited to have him back on this team.
“I think it’s going to be fun because that’s a lot of experience, a lot of guys that know what they’re doing,” Hunter said. “The biggest thing is we just want to learn off each other. I remember Clowney came in a few days ago and the first thing he was saying how he’s been watching me and how he wants to learn new moves from me and Will and all that. Then the first day he practiced, he literally got a sack on the first play. I think it’s going to be very fun with the kind of pass rusher moves that we all three have in the entire room.”
Clowney’s career has one filled with movement since he was traded ahead of the 2019 season. He spent a year with the Seattle Seahawks before playing having one-year stints with the Tennessee Titans (2020), Baltimore Ravens (2023), Carolina Panthers (2024) and Dallas Cowboys (2025). Clowney also spent two years with the Cleveland Browns from 2021 to 2022, where he recorded 11 sacks in two years.
Despite Dallas’ underwhelming defensive play, Clowney actually performed well, totaling a team-leading 8.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Coupled with Anderson and Hunter this season, the trio could be a massive problem for opposing offensive lines this year.
“He’s still growing and learning the system and the techniques and those sorts of things. Between the length, the get off, he’s played a lot of football in his time,” Texans defensive coordinator Matt Burke said. “You just see the savviness and wherewithal and stuff. He just knows ball. Once he puts it in our language, I think it’s going to be really fun to watch.”
