How Did ‘The Bear’ Series Finale Pay Tribute to Rob Reiner After His Shocking Death?

After writing around Rob Reiner‘s obvious absence, The Bear‘s series finale found a way to pay tribute to the late actor.

The conclusion, which premiered on Thursday, June 25, acknowledged Reiner’s character Albert Schnurr through Ebra (Edwin Lee Gibson). After calling Albert for advice throughout the season, Ebra got in contact with him to share good news.

“Albert, we are in business,” Ebra said over the phone. “It’s perfect. I will have all the documents, email it to you immediately. Anything else I can do?”

Albert couldn’t be heard on the other end but Ebra replied, “As you wish.” The line was an obvious nod at Cary Elwes‘ line from the 1987 movie The Princess Bride, which was directed by Reiner. While Albert wasn’t in the season, Ebra’s story line appeared to hint that Reiner was expected to have a large role before his death.

News broke in December 2025 that Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in an apparent homicide. Their son. Nick was arrested and held without bail on a suspicion of murder charge. Rob and Michele’s other children — son Jake and daughter Romy — have since broken their silence on the couple’s tragic deaths and brother Nick’s arrest. (Rob also shared daughter Tracy with late ex-wife Penny Marshall.)

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” read their January statement. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

The statement continued: “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Nick was ultimately charged with two counts of first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty in February. The screenwriter is next scheduled to appear in court in September.

In April, Jake recalled the moment he learned about Rob and Michele’s deaths and called his mom and dad the “center” of his life.

“A week from today, I will be approaching my first birthday without my parents,” he wrote via Instagram. “I consider myself lucky to have had them by my side for the past 34 years. In the last four months, I’ve learned a lot about grief. I want to thank @iamdavidkessler, who has been instrumental in navigating the horrors of this process, as well as my family and friends.”

Jake concluded: “For anyone dealing with any type of grief and loss, I see you.”
