Southern California women’s basketball received good news about one of its stars ahead of the women’s NCAA Tournament.

The Trojans announced that freshman guard Jazzy Davidson “will be available for the NCAA Tournament after sustaining an injury during the Big Ten Tournament,” in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, March 11.

Davidson suffered the injury five minutes into USC’s Big Ten Tournament game against Washington on March 5, when she was hit in front of the Trojans’ bench while running up the backcourt in transition. She quickly grabbed her shoulder and appeared to be in pain while being tended to by the USC training staff.

While Davidson departed to the locker room — while holding her right arm — officials reviewed the play and found the contact was incidental. Just one minute of game time later, Davidson returned to the game. However, she shot just 2-of-13 and finished with eight points. She was often seen shaking her right arm after shots.

With seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, Davidson departed for the bench and did not return. Coach Lindsay Gottlieb was optimistic following the game that Davidson would be able to return to the NCAA tournament.

“She took a pretty significant hit,” Gottlieb said. “She’s a really tough kid. She wants to play through it. But I was just checking with her to make sure there wasn’t anything that was getting worse, and also at times trying to settle her down. She plays so hard and wants to win.”

Davidson is averaging 17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game for the Trojans as a freshman.

USC is projected as a No. 9 seed by USA TODAY’s Mitchell Northam in his March 8 women’s NCAA Tournament projection.
