An Illinois mother allegedly hanged her 2-year-old son that she described as the “anti-Christ” — hours after discussing the Lindsay Clancy case with friends, authorities said.
Corie Walsh, 38, is facing first-degree murder charges after one of her neighbors found Walsh’s son, Barrett, hanging from the rafters in the family’s basement, FOX 32 reported.
Walsh allegedly told investigators she killed her young son because he’s the “anti-Christ” and “devil,” according to prosecutors.
Little Barrett was found with his feet off the ground, and a ligature around his neck.
The neighbor told 911 operators that Walsh had no pulse while she was administering CPR.
Emergency responders pronounced the tot dead at the scene and an autopsy later confirmed that he died of asphyxiation.
Walsh was reportedly found lying in a bathtub, fully clothed and drenched in bloody water.
She was hospitalized after police determined she had attempted to self-harm, according to a court proffer viewed by FOX 32. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Three other children were found unharmed inside the home.
Prosecutors say that Walsh was infatuated with the Clancy trial, having texted friends about the case at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, just three hours before Barrett was found dead.
Clancy is a Massachusetts mom and nurse who used exercise bands to strangle her three kids to death before trying to kill herself. She claims she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was overprescribed powerful psychiatric medications.
At the the time of Barrett’s tragic death, the jury was still deliberating Clancy’s case, a parallel prosecutors have noted to FOX 32.
Walsh’s husband was out of town at the time of the alleged murder and flew home Tuesday evening.
Walsh faces three counts of first-degree murder, accor0ding to court documents obtained by The Post.
While hospitalized, Walsh described to investigators how she allegedly killed Barrett — who also went by “Bear” — and her description was consistent with evidence found at the scene, according to FOX 32.
Once cleared by medical staff, she will be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility to await a detention hearing.
Prosecutors are requesting that a judge deny pretrial release for Walsh.
