Nick Reiner has been indicted for the murders of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner nearly eight months after they were found dead in their Brentwood, California, home.
According to the indictment obtained by Us on Wednesday, August 12, Nick, 32, is accused of committing first-degree murder on his parents on or about December 14, 2025.
“This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. “The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case, it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.”
Nick pleaded not guilty today to two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait after the indictment was unsealed.
According to NBC LA, his appointed defense attorney — L.A. deputy public defender Kimberly Greene — declined to comment following the arraignment.
Nick, who has struggled with addiction and mental health issues over the years, is scheduled to return for a pretrial hearing on September 15 in a Los Angeles courtroom.
Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan S. Hamilton previously confirmed in a December 2025 press conference that Rob and Michele were found with “apparent stab wounds.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later revealed that the couple died from “multiple sharp force injuries.”
Us confirmed on December 15 that Nick was arrested on a murder charge shortly after his parents’ death. He previously hired powerhouse attorney Alan Jackson, known for defending Karen Read, to defend him in court.
In January, however, Jackson announced that he would be stepping down from the case.
Since Rob and Michele’s deaths, Nick’s siblings, Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner, have tried their best to grieve in private while also honoring their parents’ legacy.
“Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time,” Jake, 35, wrote in an April essay shared to his Substack. “It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.”
He continued, “I can’t even begin to put myself in my parents’ shoes, but one thing I keep coming back to is how frightened they must have been. They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them. They deserved to be loved, they deserved to be respected and above all, they deserved to be appreciated for how much they gave to all three of us and to the world.”
