Prince Harry stepped out for a surprise appearance in New York City shortly after reuniting with his father, King Charles III, overseas.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, hit the TIME100 Most Influential People in Sports red carpet in Manhattan on Thursday, July 16, smiling for the cameras in a sleek black suit.
Inside the event, Harry was photographed chatting with Olympians Alysa Liu and Madison Chock and posed for a pic with New York Knicks champion Jalen Brunson.
Harry was honored as part of the TIME100 list for his work with the Invictus Games, which were first held in 2014. The international event gives wounded, injured and sick military service personnel and veterans the chance to compete in various adaptive sports.
“When you are wearing your nation’s flag on your arm, on your chest, once that’s removed, there’s something that’s missing,” Harry told the outlet in an interview published last month. “What we’ve managed to achieve through Invictus over the years is not only to give people their purpose and their meaning back, but give them their identity back.”
He added, “One thing that we really celebrate at Invictus is not only do we change lives, but we save lives as well.”
Earlier this month, Harry traveled to the U.K. to kick off the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. He appeared in good spirits at an event in Birmingham, England, on July 10, but he was not accompanied by wife Meghan Markle. (The Suits alum, 44, was also not photographed with her husband in NYC on Thursday.)
Harry and Meghan, who tied the knot in 2018, have had a rocky relationship with the rest of the royal family since stepping down from their senior responsibilities and moving to the U.S. in 2020.
Ahead of their visit across the pond, Harry’s team claimed that Buckingham Palace offered an invitation for him to stay there — which was subsequently “withdrawn at the last moment.” (Sources at BBC and ITV News claimed Harry accepted the invitation too late. Us Weekly reached out for comment at the time.)
Tensions aside, Harry and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, visited their grandfather Charles, 77, and his wife Queen Camilla at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England, during their trip abroad. The private reunion marked Charles’ first with his grandkids in four years.
A source previously told Us that Charles was “realistic about the challenges of rebuilding” his relationship with Harry but also felt “optimistic” about the visit.
“He’s hoping it’s the first step toward repairing the relationship between Harry and [Prince] William, as well,” the insider added.
