The Pittsburgh Steelers may be inching ever closer to an extremely rare quarterback opportunity following a major decision handed down by the NCAA.
A week after denying quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s request for reinstatement over a violation of college football gambling rules, the NCAA has now rejected Texas Tech’s appeal to reinstate the young signal caller.
ESPN reported that Texas Tech’s appeal denial is separate from Sorsby’s lawsuit against the NCAA. A Texas judge heard arguments in Sorsby’s lawsuit against the NCAA on June 1, but an official ruling hasn’t been made yet.
Sorsby, who threw for 7,200 yards and 60 touchdowns from 2023 to 2025, was expected to be one of the top quarterback options in the 2027 class before he landed himself in hot water.
With the NCAA denying Texas Tech’s appeal, the Steelers are one step closer to potentially showing interest in acquiring Sorsby via an oh-so-rare supplemental draft, the last of which took place in 2019.
